In a groundbreaking legal victory, The Pride Law Firm has secured a historic $116 million settlement for 103 women who endured systematic sexual abuse and violence at the now-closed Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Dublin.
This is the largest settlement ever reached by the U.S. government for survivors of sexual assault, setting a major precedent for justice and accountability in the U.S. prison system.
This remarkable settlement follows the indictments and convictions of multiple FCI Dublin staff members, including the warden and chaplain, who were found guilty of participating in or enabling the abuse.
These convictions and the closure of the facility underscore the urgent need for broader reforms in the federal prison system. The Pride Law Firm’s tireless pursuit of justice not only brings closure to the victims of FCI Dublin but also serves as a powerful reminder that systematic abuse in correctional facilities cannot and will not be tolerated.
Attorney Jessica Pride, managing partner at The Pride Law Firm, who served as the lead trial attorney and head of the Leadership Committee for this litigation, said in a statement:
"This historic settlement sends a powerful message: systematic abuse of prisoners will not be tolerated. What happened at Dublin was not just a failure of oversight - it was a cultural rot, where sexual abuse became entrenched as part of the prison’s operations. This settlement represents justice for 103 brave women who refused to remain silent and fought to ensure their voices were heard.”
The $116 million civil settlement represents the largest payout for a group of sexual assault survivors in U.S. prison history and the most any individual inmate has ever received for such claims.
The resolution includes:
Attorney Jessica Pride, who spearheaded this historic case, stressed that the abuse these women endured was a blatant violation of their basic human rights:
“Prisoners cannot legally consent. Regardless of why these women were incarcerated, being subjected to repeated sexual abuse was never part of their sentence. This case is a stark reminder of how we must safeguard the dignity and humanity of our most vulnerable populations.”
While this settlement marks a major victory for the survivors of FCI Dublin, The Pride Law Firm is not stopping here. This case is just the beginning of the firm’s continued commitment to justice on behalf of survivors of sexual abuse, both within and outside the prison system.
Jessica Pride has emphasized that the fight for reform is far from over, and the firm will continue to hold institutions accountable where power imbalances and lack of oversight create dangerous environments where sexual abuse can go unchecked.
